I'm So Old School....

I'm the only one I know who can enjoy ESPNClassic NBA Greatest Games Marathons and not really care what anyone thinks. Even though this marathon took place like a month ago, I'm still watching Game Four of the 1981 Eastern Conference finals between my beloved Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics like it just happened a few days ago. And because I clearly have nothing more to do and no real topics to post about (at least not right now), I will be glad to give you a hint of what Chris Stevens would've written had he been a sports writer instead of a still-forming being in my mother's womb in April of '81.

Sixers have Celtics knee deep in trouble
by Chris Stevens

Clearly, Bobby Jones can't get enough of Superman II. As the latest superhero flick with Christopher Reeve owns the silver screen, the Philadelphia 76ers' defensive ace saved the day Sunday afternoon, intercepting a Tiny Archibald pass intended for Larry Bird to give the Sixers a 107-105 victory and a 3 games to 1 series lead in these Eastern Conference finals. Julius Erving continue to shut down Larry Bird, and also led all scorers with 26 points. Rookie flash Andrew Toney contributed 17 points, most of which came in the first half.

So what does this mean for the Sixers, now one measly win away from what one would consider a cupcake NBA Finals opponent in either the Kansas City Kings or the Houston Rockets? Surely that "We Owe you One" Dr. J promised the Delaware Valley about four summers ago. The Kings and Rockets are both 40-42 teams who had to pull off ridiculous upsets (Phoenix and Los Angeles respectively) to get to the Wild Wild Western conference finals, and although Houston would rate the toughest test for the Sixers thanks Big Man extraordinare Moses Malone, surely a Sixers championship, 14 years in the making, could only be a matter of three weeks away.

Back to Jones, whose steal might've caused some Controversy like that talented, yet weird young musician named Prince. "I call him 'White Lightning,' he's so quick,"* said Sixers wordsmith Darryl Dawkins, who goes by the nickname "Chocolate Thunder." Dawkins (14 points and 10 rebounds) also played a huge role in the victory, hitting two key jumpshots after the Celtics clawed back to take a three point lead early in the fourth quarter.

The big play of the game came after Jones missed a running left-handed lay-up with nine seconds left, Celtics coach Bill Fitch didn't bother to call a time-out and sent Archibald up the floor, and he saw Bird cutting for the basket. The veteran floor general unleashed a perfect chest pass and the game looked fit to be tied.

That was until Jones jumped in front of the ball and knocked Bird to Chester, and the Sixers are now ahead to stay it seems. And all because the Celtics didn't have the kryptonite for Bobby Jones. As the theme song, written by hometown boys Gene McFadden and John Whithead goes, there may truly be no stopping these Sixers now.

*That quote actually was made by Darryl's crazy ass in a May 1981 edition of SI after the game in which Bobby Jones made the big steal. So I'm just citing my sources. No Jayson Blair stuff goin' on here, God.

Of course, the legend of the '81 East finals is that the Sixers would go on to lose the next three games to the Celtics, and Boston would claim its 14th NBA Championship by defeating the Rockets 4 games to 2. I would've been bitter as hell had I been around back then. Oh Well, until someone invents a working time machine, there's always ESPNClassic.

*Whistling"Guess Who's Back" (the Scarface, Beans, and Hov version)*

Alright, clearly I haven't been blogging or commenting the last couple of weeks. Of course you guys know about my grandmother and I thank you for your condolences and well wishes, it really means a lot to me. Again, I know she's in a better place, and at 84, she lived a long full life and her work here on Earth was done. Our relationship was so cool that she was more than my grandmother she was one of my good friends. Even though I'm going to miss her, I still have the great memories of her while she was here, something I may dedicate a whole entry to in the future.

On to the random update. I'm still sick of females and their b.s. in case you haven't noticed. You gotta love when women just think I'm a complete and utter idiot because I'm not tall, slim, thugged out or a prettyboy. For example, I was talking to this chick; my age, no job, not in school, clearly living at home and without a car and she says to me "you need to spend at least 30 dollars a day on me because [it] ain't free," and my personal favorite, "You have a car? Good, I like to be driven around." Needless to say, that was the only conversation I was involved in. Not to mention females who claim friendship, yet still spreading their legs and bending over for every other dude, but y'all knew that already.

My Summer Session I Grades:

Mass Communications Senior Project: A
Survey of Math I: B

Who's your arithmetic daddy?! YEAH! Who's set builder notation is it?! Give me that integer! O.K., so I'm a little too stoked about a Math grade, but this is one less thing I have to worry about this coming year or semester, however long I have to be at DSU. I'm currently taking Survey II in this second session, so wish me luck. If I pass this, my Math obligations are complete. Wish I had thought of this summer school thing earlier.

I'm watching the A-Team on TVLand and I just remembered how much I loved the intro to the show, and I thought of my Ten95 folks and came up with this killer promo;

In June of 2006, five young black journalists got together to create a blog for readers to track their successes, failiures, thoughts and comments on the journalism industry. These five talented people are spread through out the Northeastern region of the United States of America. If you want to see Who's got next, if you need a different view on things, and if you're not afraid of the truth, and if you can find them, maybe you'll read....Ten95
. *Hums the A-Team theme*

Tell me that's not hot! I dare you! That's that hot ish right there!

To get serious for a minute, the news coverage of Barbaro is sickening. The body count in the Illadelph (Philly for the uninformed) is now over 200, and we're just halfway through July. Yet the big three TV news stations in the city (CBS3, 6ABC and NBC10) waste five to nine minutes a night about a walking glue bottle. Come on now! People are dying, it's about to be 100 degrees all week, World War III is about to jump off in the Mid-East, and all people care about is a limping pack of Hawaiian Silky?! Ri-damn-diculous.

Wow. We're only four weeks away from NABJ in Indianapolis. I can't wait to get there, meet up with my YBJ folks, go to the job fair, make some connects...and hopefully stay away from the alleged freaky-deakiness that goes on at these conventions.

That's pretty much all I got for right now, but yeah, I'm fine, and I'm back in full effect. So in the words of Tommy Davidson as Varnell Hill on that great two-part ep of Martin; DID YA MISS ME?!

I don't wanna do this anymore...

While most folks have off this 4th of July weekend, I have not taken a break. Yep, you guessed it. Another day, another argument with a female friend that ended in apparent alienation. Long story short, I had been rather cold to this girl because she had just gotten in a relationship, and I was of course being a pure a-hole about the siuation. She'd speak to me during the course of a day via AIM, and I'd be good for one word, two or three word answers at the most.

So tonight, when she said she was getting ready for bed because she had to work in the morning, I responded with "uh-huh," which doesn't take a computer science major to figure out that I was being a smart ass. Then we got into this brief argument about a general statement I made earlier about people not caring about my situation because they're happy in their fantasy land relationships, and that women couldn't be trusted with someone's feelings; all subtle shots at her and a lot of my female friends. So she left in a huff, and that pretty much was that.

As much as this happens, you figure I'd be used to it by now, and just shrug it off as Chris being Chris. Unfortunately, I hate when I go off like this. I've been known to be really cold and callous to female friends who have new boyfriends or new situations that they're happy in. One word answers, snap short conversations, walking by them without speaking, I do it all.

Petty and mean, yes. Cruel? Probably. Uncalled for? Absolutely. Yet in spite of knowing that it's wrong, I continue to do it because I guess I have this thirst for vengeance and hurting women so they feel the hurt that I've been put through. Yet and still, it backfires. Horribly.

I do know that I'm tired of alienating and pushing women away because I can't control my emotions or better yet have the cojones to step up and say I want to be with a certain girl. I truly need to find a resolution. Or else I'll continue to be a petty, spiteful, and bitter fool. Not to mention, still alone.
